How To Scare Off A First Date
The following data shows overly religious introductions, such as mentioning god in your first message can scare people off.
I was reading this article and thought I would expand a little on it's findings.
Religion and politics can be very strong topics to start with so it may be best to introduce them after a few messages between your potential date.
Being too forward can be a put off in early messages. Avoid using terms such as 'sexy' or 'beautiful' when contacting people for the first time. It should be obvious that you have an attraction to the person due to your message, this can be confirmed in later correspondences
Adding references to the profile of whoever you are messaging can improve your response rate. This stands to reason really, but many people believe if they send a standard message to hundreds of users, they are likely to increase their chances of a response. Instead of this, comment on something the person says in their profile, this helps build a rapport and shows your are genuinely interested.
Self-effacing terms may lead to more responses. There is a thin line between 'I need to be loved' and 'I am a complete looser' though. If you're not experienced in this area, maybe leave it alone.
Make your first message fun and exciting. Before you send it, think 'would I be excited about responding to this message?' If the answer is no, you should work on it to make it more appealing. Try and make the person feel special, and don't make the message too short. At least a few paragraphs shows your are prepared to spend time getting to know them.
