Make Your Home Ready For Your Girlfriends First Visit

Your place can reveal a lot about your character. Get it right and she'll be round tomorrow, get it wrong and you might never see her again.

  1. Tidy the place up. Unless you are a clean freak, your place is probably in a state of disorder. Having dirty pots and pants all over the place doesn't create a good first impression. Get the place looking as neat as possible and she will be impressed.
  2. Clear your internet history and cookies. Your girlfriend might want to check her email, check cinema listings etc. You don't want her to start typing 'hotmail' in your browser, and the auto complete bringing up 'hotolderwomen.com' or something.
  3. If you think you might get really lucky, make sure you have clean sheets and some protection at the ready.
  4. Stock your fridge up with a variety of food. Don't just plan one meal. If it turns out she doesn't like what you have planned, a trip to the shops could really break your flow. Have a good selection of drinks and make sure to always put white wine in the fridge a few hours before her visit.
  5. Don't have the TV on, have some music playing at a low level before she arrives. This will mask any temporary pauses in conversation and provide a talking point.
  6. If you have animals make sure they are presentable and don't smell. If you have a dog that is prone to humping guests, put it in a different secure area of the house or outside.
  7. Make her feel comfortable and safe at all times. Don't triple bolt the door when she walks in. Don't show her the bedroom and say 'This is where all the action happens'. Don't have any photos of you with your ex girlfriends on display. Don't be fussy about making her take her shoes off or anything. If she wants to wear high heals and make dents in your new laminate flooring, just live with it. Let her explore your place on her own if she wants to.
